Spotlight: Sally Munroe
Verizon employee Sally Munroe has been involved with the Portal to Hope since 2001. Portal to Hope is a nationally recognized, award winning nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive services to people whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence, stalking and related crimes.
Sally and her coworkers on the Verizon/IBEW Local 2222/CWA Domestic Violence Awareness Committee help to collect necessitous items for victims relocating to emergency shelters at Portal to Hope and other domestic violence shelters in the Boston area. She also volunteers her time serving as a member of the organization's Advisory Committee, and she assists with public awareness projects.
"Sally became a member of Portal to Hope's family on day one,' said Deborah Fallon, Founder of Portal to Hope and survivor of violent crime. "Since Sally decided to team with Portal to Hope in our cause to end domestic violence, she has helped us to foster a wonderful partnership with Verizon."
Portal to Hope has offices based in Everett, Lynn, Malden, Medford, and Winthrop, Massachusetts. The organization relies heavily on volunteers to carry-out services including crisis intervention, emergency shelter, legal aid, job placement and housing search assistance, youth programs and other advocacy. Volunteers such as Sally help PTH to reach grassroots goals, including violence prevention education provided in local high schools and to the public-at-large.
By volunteering more than 50 hours with PTH, Sally earned a $750 grant for that organization through the Verizon Foundation's Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP) - for more information on VIP, click here.
