Verizon Employees to Assist Flood Victims in Pakistan

Foundation to Match Employee Donations on a 1:1 Basis

Disaster Relief Campaign

With 20 percent of Pakistan under water, an estimated 1,600 people dead and nearly 20 million affected by historic flooding, the Verizon Foundation is responding by opening its Disaster Relief Incentive Program (DRIP) through Sept. 10.

US-based Verizon employee donations to either the American Red Cross or World Vision are eligible for matching on a one-to-one basis, up to a total of $1,000 a year per employee for disaster relief contributions. If you have already made a donation to either of those organizations for Pakistan relief through the foundation’s Matching Incentive Program, that donation will be credited to DRIP.

The flooding is spreading in Pakistan, making the need for aid even more urgent. The United Nations estimates that 6 million people are in urgent need of food aid – more than double the number of people affected by the 2004 tsunami and the Haiti earthquake combined. The needs for food, clean water, and safe shelter continue to increase, especially for the most vulnerable.

How to Donate Through the Disaster Relief Program

Under the Disaster Relief Incentive Program (DRIP), the Verizon Foundation matches U.S.-based employee donations on a 1:1 basis -- up to a maximum of $1,000 per year, per employee -- designated nonprofit relief agencies. The Verizon Foundation has partnered with World Vision and the American Red Cross as the designated disaster-relief agencies for this disaster through DRIP.

PLEASE NOTE: All DRIP matching gift requests must be registered on the Verizon Foundation Web site prior to making any actual donation.
