Verizon Foundation Supports Technology Programs At New National Law Enforcement Museum

The check was presented as part of National Police Week activities and represents the final installment of a $1.5 million Verizon Foundation grant to the National Law Enforcement Museum, breaking ground in Fall 2010 in Washington, DC.

The National Law Enforcement Museum, which will break ground this fall in Washington, D.C., will offer visitors educational and interactive technology programs funded by a grant from the Verizon Foundation.

"The programs we're funding will emphasize domestic violence prevention, an issue of enormous importance to us," said Mike Maiorana, vice president for federal government sales at Verizon Wireless. "This month, we'll commemorate National Police Week, and I can't think of a better way to mark the occasion than by delivering a $1.2 million check to support what promises to be the world's most comprehensive museum of law enforcement."

This was the final installment of a $1.5 million grant from Verizon Foundation to the National Law Enforcement Museum, following a $300,000 donation given last year. The museum is scheduled to open in 2013.

"The Verizon Foundation grant will fund development of interactive learning tools and educational programs that will enhance the museum experience and meet national standards of learning in history, civics, science and math," said Craig W. Floyd, chairman of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund that is spearheading construction of the museum.
